Kelly, shared a heartfelt message addressing her younger self following her groundbreaking revelation of alleged sexual abuse by her father. In her post, she wrote, “Hey Baby girl… It’s me, you. We’re 26 now. I know you didn’t even think you’d make it past 15, but you did. I know you’re probably wondering how we made it here and what we’re doing now.” This poignant message reflects her journey of resilience and healing, highlighting the challenges she faced growing up in the shadow of her father’s actions.

Her reflections come in light of her father’s sentencing; R. Kelly received a 20-year prison sentence for child sexual abuse and child pornography in February 2023. On October 11, 2024, Joann disclosed that she too had been a victim of his abuse but had felt too afraid to come forward. When she eventually reported him, authorities informed her that they could not prosecute due to the time elapsed.
Remarkably, Joann shared that she has found the strength to forgive him for his actions, indicating her ongoing healing process and growth.
