Demi Moore exuded chic elegance in an all-black ensemble as she attended a screening of The Substance in New York City. The actress was spotted carrying her beloved pup, Pilaf, adding a personal touch to her stylish appearance.
The 61-year-old actress made an appearance at New York City’s IFC Center for a Q&A session in support of the critically acclaimed horror film The Substance. Demi Moore was joined by her 29-year-old co-star Margaret Qualley, who sported a cardigan and skirt that perfectly complemented Moore’s chic look. Adding a personal touch to the event, Moore brought along her special guest, her adorable Chihuahua, Pilaf.
The model-turned-actress carried her tiny Chihuahua, Pilaf, in her arms as she departed the screening. Demi Moore opted for a sophisticated Thom Browne ensemble, featuring a sleek black sweater layered with a matching black cardigan adorned with a red, white, and black stripe beneath the row of buttons, adding a subtle yet stylish touch to her classy look.
Demi Moore contrasted her fuzzy sweater with a shiny black midi skirt featuring wide pleats that extended past her knees. She completed her outfit with a striking pair of black derby brogue shoes, crafted with a textured Scotch grain finish, and notably went sock-free with the dress shoes.
Additionally, the ex-wife of Bruce Willis carried a sleek black handbag and sported a fashion-forward pair of black-frame aviator sunglasses, which complemented her long, raven locks cascading gracefully down her shoulders.
Demi’s co-star, Margaret Qualley, mirrored her style with a sophisticated navy cardigan, fully buttoned over a navy dress adorned with tiny polka dots, showcasing a coordinated yet reserved look.
The Poor Things actress styled her dark hair in a messy bun and opted for black stockings, completing her look with classic black loafers.
Demi Moore and Margaret Qualley attended the event to discuss their critically acclaimed new horror satire, The Substance. In the film, directed, written, and produced by French filmmaker Coralie Fargeat, Demi portrays Elisabeth Sparkle, a former Oscar winner who has transitioned to television with a popular aerobics program that she hosts.
However, upon turning 50, Elisabeth is unceremoniously dismissed from her show as the network, helmed by an extravagant Dennis Quaid, seeks a younger host, despite the program’s solid ratings.
When Elisabeth learns of a mysterious drug known as The Substance that promises to help her maintain her youth, she eagerly seizes the opportunity. This shadowy substance enables her to grow a second, younger body, played by Margaret Qualley, which she can inhabit for seven days at a time. However, she must return to her original body for a full week before alternating again.
As Elisabeth’s younger self becomes a sensation with the network and secures her former show, she soon discovers that her younger counterpart struggles with the limitation of only using her body for a week at a time. The resulting delayed transfers lead to significant, stomach-churning consequences for Elisabeth’s original body.
The Substance has been praised by film enthusiasts for revitalizing the body horror sub-genre, reminiscent of the works of filmmakers such as David Cronenberg (The Fly, Videodrome), Brian Yuzna (Society), and Stuart Gordon (Re-Animator, From Beyond).
Demi, who experiences multiple shocking physical transformations throughout the film, has garnered some of the best reviews of her career, while Margaret has concluded a series of acclaimed performances with esteemed directors. The film is notable for its impressive level of gore for an international co-production, having screened at the Cannes Film Festival, where it won the Best Screenplay award earlier this year.
While this has delighted horror aficionados, some unprepared audiences have found themselves “traumatized” by its graphic depictions of bloodshed and mangled limbs.
Demi’s visit to the IFC Center in Manhattan follows her appearance at the 2024 Hamptons Film Festival earlier in the week.
Demi Moore was present to receive this year’s Career Achievement in Acting Award. During her acceptance speech, she took the opportunity to provide an update on the condition of her ex-husband, Bruce Willis.
The action star has been compelled to retire due to his ongoing battle with frontotemporal dementia (FTD) and aphasia, which have reportedly left him unable to speak in recent months.
“you know, I’ve said this before. The disease is what the disease is. And I think you have to be in real deep acceptance of what that is,” Moore shared with the audience during a live discussion moderated by Alina Cho, as reported by People. “But for where he’s at, he is stable.”
