Fairs, who plays the drums in a local swing band, was previously married to schoolteacher Jeanne Speight. The couple, who share a son, Jack, and a daughter, Shula, separated around 2017 after over 25 years of marriage. More recently, he has been living with Dr. Anjali Hariharan, an Indian homeopathic therapist.
