David Walliams has finally addressed the speculation surrounding his rumored romance with Natalie Imbruglia. The comedian and actor recently commented on their relationship, which has attracted media attention. Although he didn’t confirm the romance, Walliams acknowledged their close friendship and hinted at the possibility of something more. Fans and followers are eager to hear more details as the two continue to be spotted together, fueling further intrigue about their relationship status.
David Walliams admitted that he fell for Natalie Imbruglia “like a ton of bricks,” but he revealed that she did not feel the same way. This candid acknowledgment has added another layer to the ongoing speculation about their relationship, as Walliams reflects on his feelings for the singer while also noting the lack of reciprocation.
David Walliams and Natalie Imbruglia, who were frequently seen together in London back in 2015, sparked romance rumors at that time. At the time, David, 53, had just split from his ex-wife, model Lara Stone, and he was smitten with Natalie, 49. However, she only viewed him as a close friend.
Speaking on the Australian radio show Fitzy and Wippa with Kate Ritchie, David shared, “She’s very much friend-zoned me. You know when that happens, that you have a huge crush on someone and you sort of imagine being married and what your kids look like and all that sort of thing? And you’re just completely friend-zoned.”
David Walliams added that Natalie Imbruglia saw him more as a “gay best friend” due to his camp humor. He told the hosts, “We didn’t go on any dates. We just became very good friends and we hung out together.” This further emphasizes the platonic nature of their relationship, despite his strong feelings for her.
David Walliams expressed that it was hard not to fall for Natalie Imbruglia “like a ton of bricks” because she is amazing. He acknowledged, “I think I’m seen as the sort of gay best friend by a lot of people.” Reflecting on why their relationship never progressed romantically, he joked, “Well, look at me. Let’s be honest, she could do a lot better.”
Throughout his career, David has dated several high-profile women, including Geri Halliwell and model Abi Titmuss, and was previously married to Dutch model Lara Stone. The couple shares an 11-year-old son, Alfred, and they split in 2015, with their divorce court hearing lasting just 60 seconds.
David, who stepped down from his judging role on Britain’s Got Talent in 2022 following “disrespectful comments” about contestants, is now back working on new projects with Little Britain co-star Matt Lucas. Recently, Matt appeared on This Morning and was questioned about rumors of a reboot for a new generation.
Matt Lucas teased the potential return of Little Britain, stating, “What we’re doing is we’re working on a few different TV ideas, and maybe ideas in other mediums as well, to do stuff together again because it’s been a long time. So we’re developing lots of different things.”
The show returned to BBC iPlayer in 2022 with some offensive blackface scenes cut by producers, following its removal from the service in 2020. At the time, assurances were given that scenes were removed by creators Matt and David, with advisory warnings added to the start of some episodes.
Some characters, including Vicky Pollard and wheelchair user Andy, were retained, alongside Matt’s homosexual Welshman Dafydd Thomas and David’s “cross-dresser” Emily Howard. However, characters donning blackface, such as Pastor Jesse King, Desiree DeVere, and other racial stereotypes like Thai bride Ting Tong, were removed as part of the show’s revival.
