Miranda Hart has disclosed charming details surrounding her romantic proposal, which took place in London’s Kew Gardens, following the announcement of her marriage to an undisclosed individual whose identity remains confidential.
The 51-year-old comedian publicly confirmed her marriage during a live appearance on The One Show on Tuesday evening, following widespread speculation. In conversation with hosts Alex Jones and Alex Scott, Miranda, aged 51, remarked that “someone’s put a ring on it,” while revealing that she met her husband, whom she referred to as “my person,” at the age of 49.
In her memoir, the actress provided a detailed account of the proposal, explaining that her then-boyfriend suggested they take a walk through the gardens on what seemed like an “ordinary January day.” She recounted: “We stood still on the bridge overlooking the lake when the quiet was suddenly broken as he, rather seriously, said, ‘Miranda.’ I turned around, and as I did, he got down on one knee. ‘Miranda…'”
In her memoir, Miranda Hart shared the emotional moment of her proposal, recalling that she couldn’t remember much after her boyfriend began to kneel, as she immediately burst into tears. She humorously noted, “Apparently, I said yes before he had even finished the sentence—awkward if he’d been tying a shoelace.”
She reflected on the profound impact of the proposal, writing, “I didn’t expect a traditional proposal to move me so deeply. But here was someone who knew all my quirks and flaws and still chose to bend down, look up at me, and commit to love and stand by me for the rest of his life.”
Describing her husband as “kind, loving, and really fun,” she emphasized, “He’s not my boyfriend—he’s my husband. We got married when I was fifty-one.”
During her announcement on The One Show, she enthusiastically shared, “I’m married! I got married at 51, and it’s just so lovely!” She then reflected on her onscreen character, stating, “I’d written Gary [Tom Ellis] for Miranda, and it wasn’t until I was 49 that I met my person,” but clarified that she would keep her husband’s identity private, teasing, “There’s a bit of a twist about how we met.”
Miranda expressed her hope that readers would find inspiration in her story, adding, “I met someone during a pandemic, while dealing with chronic illness, when I couldn’t leave the house or get out of bed. I didn’t want to do life on my own anymore, and now, I’m overjoyed to have found my person.”
Miranda Hart reflected on her unexpected love story, stating, “The fact that I could meet somebody—it’s not some romcom plot, but it offers hope. No matter the situation, there’s always hope, and things really do change.”
She first hinted at a new romance while promoting her memoir, playfully teasing, “I couldn’t possibly say if there’s a love story in it… (There is—shush). Exciting.”
Recently, Miranda has been spotted wearing a wedding band in various Instagram posts and videos, where she has over a million followers, and locals near her £2 million West London home have seen her with a mystery man.
After being single for over 15 years, Miranda provided more details about her relationship in her memoir, confirming that she had married a man she met during lockdown. The man, whom she affectionately refers to as “The Boy from Bristol” or “The Mould Man,” entered her life while working to fix mould issues in her home.
In the final pages of I Haven’t Been Entirely Honest With You, she revealed, “I met my best friend and the love of my life during a house remediation project. He brings me more silliness, laughter, joy, support, care, and safety than I ever thought possible. Yes, my love was Mr Mould Man.”
Miranda humorously admitted that her friends were shocked when she began dating him, given the circumstances of the UK lockdown and her home being overrun with damp issues. She added, “Whenever I told my friends I had met someone, they all paused, confused, and said it wasn’t exactly a likely scenario. But he did appear—my knight in shining armour—to de-mould me.”
