The City of Miami Beach has resolved to revoke the key previously issued to Sean Combs, also known as Diddy, in light of his recent arrest and subsequent indictment on charges of sex trafficking.
On an as-yet undetermined future date, the City of Miami Beach will officially rescind the ceremonial key bestowed upon Sean Combs, also known as Diddy, in October 2015. This decision follows the rapper’s recent arrest, the indictment related to sex trafficking, and an increasing number of allegations leveled against him.
Several months prior, Sean Combs was requested to return the Key to the City of New York. Additionally, he had previously been awarded a ceremonial key from the City of Chicago; however, it remains unclear whether Chicago has taken similar action to revoke this honor.
Miami city officials are currently in the final stages of negotiations to imminently rescind the ceremonial key; however, the specific date for this action has not yet been confirmed due to Hurricane Milton, according to Newsafro.com. The storm is projected to impact Florida on Wednesday, and sources indicated that this is the reason for the delay in the rescission process.
In 2015, the former mayor, Philip Levine, conferred the honorary key to the city upon Combs during the Revolt Music Conference held at the Fontainebleau in the vibrant city. The city has also granted keys to other prominent figures in Hollywood, including Combs’ former partner, Jennifer Lopez.
This action follows Sean Combs’ return of the Key to the City of New York in June, in response to a request made by Mayor Eric Adams in an official letter.
In his correspondence, Mayor Adams sought the return of the key following the release of hotel surveillance footage depicting Combs assaulting his ex-girlfriend, Cassie Ventura, which sparked significant controversy. The mayor expressed his solidarity with survivors of domestic abuse and emphasized that the Key to the City is awarded to exemplary citizens, asserting that Combs no longer meets the criteria for such an honor.
Recently resurfaced footage from last month depicted the Democrat mayor of New York City, who is himself currently facing criminal charges, presenting the Key to the City to Sean Combs. This footage emerged nearly one year after the ceremonial honor was bestowed upon the rapper.
Previously, Combs was awarded the Key to the City of Chicago in October 2006 by former Mayor Richard Daley. Currently, Combs is incarcerated following his arrest in New York City last month, where he faces charges related to sex trafficking. He is awaiting trial and is also confronted with over 100 allegations of sexual misconduct.
Furthermore, an attorney has recently announced representation of 120 individuals who have come forward with sexual misconduct allegations against the hip-hop mogul.
Houston attorney Tony Buzbee indicated that he anticipates the filing of lawsuits within the next month, primarily in New York and Los Angeles.
Buzbee described the victims as comprising 60 males and 60 females, with 25 individuals being minors at the time of the alleged misconduct. He noted that one individual claims to have been only nine years old when he was abused. The allegations span a period from 1991 to the present year.
At a recent news conference, Buzbee stated, “This type of sexual assault, sexual abuse, and sexual exploitation should never occur in the United States or anywhere else. It should not have been permitted to continue for such an extended period. This conduct has resulted in a significant number of individuals who are injured, frightened, and traumatized.”
