The room’s comfy furnishings and dim wicker shade lighting were so inviting that I could have easily spent the entire day indoors. However, the allure of the hotel’s stunning communal spaces beckoned me outside.
The expansive open-plan common area is surrounded by a sprawling terrace, featuring a mid-century style interior designed by co-owner Phillip Gonda. The space includes asymmetrical wooden coffee tables, a large dining table, and abstract wooden sculptures sourced from Bali.
With ample seating options, from plush cream-colored sofas to retro-style chairs, it’s the perfect spot to unwind. The presence of two roaring fires adds to the cozy atmosphere, making it easy to drift off to sleep.
Atzaro Cape Town brands itself as the “perfect pre or post-safari stay,” embodying a wildlife theme throughout the property. Nature photographs by South African artist Caroline Gibello adorn the walls, a zebra rug adds flair to the dining area, and small hippo sculptures are playfully scattered around the entrance.
Outside, guests can unwind on a large wooden terrace featuring a sunken pool and cozy daybeds, perfect for soaking up the sun. For those looking to stay active, the hotel offers access to a gym and a wellness suite, which includes a yoga room, sauna, and private massage room.

During my stay, I enjoyed a delightful four-course meal prepared by private chef Nike Roessler, who often cooks for guests. The menu featured a variety of dishes, including crab and avocado salad. For a more casual experience, guests can request a barbecue. Though it’s tempting to remain within the hotel’s tranquil sanctuary, the vibrant culinary scene of Cape Town, known as the Mother City, is just a short distance away, offering a plethora of memorable dining experiences amid stunning sights.
The vibrant Bo-Kaap neighborhood, famous for its cobbled streets and colorful houses, is just a short drive away, as are the stunning Kirstenbosch National Botanical Gardens. Atzaro Cape Town can also organize tours to enhance your sightseeing experience. During my visit, I enjoyed a tour of the peninsula arranged by Ligia De Coito from Wine Desk, which included stops at iconic locations such as the penguin-populated Boulder’s Beach, Cape Point, and the breathtaking Chapman’s Peak.
