Nicholas Prosper, 18, was arrested on Friday after police responded to reports of gunshots at a block of flats in Luton, Bedfordshire. The bodies of his mother, Juliana, 48, and his siblings, Kyle, 16, and Giselle, 13, were discovered in one of the flats. During a brief appearance at Luton Magistrates Court, Prosper, dressed in a prison-issue grey jumper and tracksuit bottoms, only confirmed his name and date of birth. He faces charges related to the murders as well as additional offences. Police also reported finding a firearm during a search of the area.
Deputy District Judge Robert Borwick stated, “Nicholas Prosper, the offences with which you are charged must be sent to Crown Court. Your case will be transferred to Luton Crown Court for a preliminary hearing on September 18, 2024.”
Deputy District Judge Robert Borwick stated, “I have no authority to consider bail, so you are remanded in custody until that day.” As Nicholas Prosper was led away to the cells, a man believed to be his father stood up in the public gallery and said, “I still love you, son. I know it’s not your fault, okay?”
Police discovered the bodies of Juliana, Kyle, and Giselle Prosper at the 15-storey Leabank Tower around 5:30 a.m. on Friday. Prosper was apprehended nearby shortly thereafter. Neighbors reported hearing loud ‘bangs,’ with one initially mistaking the sounds for car backfiring. A male nurse who has lived in the area for 22 years commented on the community’s generally good relations, but acknowledged an underlying issue with bad behavior.
A local resident expressed disbelief at the use of a gun, stating, “I’m shocked to hear somebody had a gun – never. I walk here late at night and never had a problem, never felt unsafe.”
The Prosper family were known for their regular attendance at a local church, and Kyle was a student at a nearby Catholic school. Mrs. Prosper, who worked at a local Sainsbury’s, was described as having a “heart of gold.”
