A 13-year-old boy attacked a classmate by cutting his throat during a knife and hammer rampage at a Russian school.
Suspect Roman G was arrested following the brutal attack at a school in Chelyabinsk, where he reportedly entered the premises and began randomly assaulting his peers.
A girl was rushed to the hospital in serious condition and underwent surgery to save her life after having her throat cut and being struck on the head with a hammer. A second girl also required emergency surgery, and several others were injured in the attack.
Prior to the incident, the suspect posted a rant on social media, criticizing Vladimir Putin and accusing him of “Nazism,” claiming that “Putin has enslaved the population.” Investigators are still trying to determine the motive behind the brutal attack.
According to news outlet Baza, the suspect, Roman G, arrived at school dressed in black during the first lesson. Instead of going directly to his classroom, he walked past it and headed towards the toilet. A few minutes later, he burst into a Biology classroom, waving a hammer and screaming.
He first struck a girl on the head and then attacked the teacher. Roman subsequently assaulted another girl and a boy before fleeing the classroom and running down the corridor. The National Guard eventually detained Roman G at Remedial School No. 68 and took him to a psychiatrist.
Initially, four people were reported injured in the attack, including a 13-year-old girl, Valeria E, who is expected to be placed in an induced coma. She was undergoing surgery to attempt to save her life. The other injured individuals, which include a teacher, two girls, and a boy, were all taken to the hospital for treatment.
Biology teacher Nina Shoshina, 57, was injured while attempting to subdue the attacker and protect her students at the school in Chelyabinsk. From the hospital, she recounted that the attacker entered the Biology classroom five minutes before the lesson ended, brandishing a gun and a hammer, and remained silent while screaming.
According to Lenta, the boy had brought an air gun into the classroom.
Teacher Nina Shoshina described that she began screaming to stop the attacker and ran towards him, but the girls reached him first. She was then struck on the arm, shoulder, and head after he hit both girls on the head with a hammer.
An eighth-grade student from another class recounted the scene, stating, “We were in physics class and heard screams in the hallway on the second floor. It was almost 9 am, and we were confused about what was happening. The teacher came out and saw everyone covered in blood. She tried to protect her classmate from the attack, but it was too late.”
