Notably, a number of four Irish gentlemen sauntered into a bar. But that was not the first line of a joke. As many hundreds of pub landlords are searching out, it can rather initiate the beginning of a very modern nightmare.
Cutely enough,Gary Sidwell is simply case in point to note. He is responsible for The Purley Arms, which is an old-school boozer which falls into the working-class neighbourhood of South Croydon.
Indeed here, his ordeal started on a Wednesday afternoon in 2023 October, when young, burly Brian Mongan came to the premises, followed up by his brother by name, Pete and their friends Paddy and Tom McDonagh.
The subject matter became what happened next of an escalating legal tussle, with Gary’s whole and complete livelihood riding on its very outcome.
It revolves around a single, undisputed fact: that Mongan and his mates left The Purley Arms about 60 seconds after walking in. And a thorny question: why?
Gary opines that he refused to serve the group for the sole reason of their strange acts and behaviour. Mongan and his chums informed the media that he booted them out for a totally different reason and point and one which could really now cost him money. Indeed it could cost a huge money.
