Angelina Jolie has developed a close friendship with British rapper and political activist Akala following her contentious breakup with Brad Pitt.
Romance rumors surfaced when Jolie, 49, and Akala, 40, were spotted leaving her hotel in Italy during the Venice International Film Festival. However, sources have clarified that they are not romantically involved. An insider informed People that Jolie is friends with Akala and his partner, Chanelle Newman, who was also present.
Despite not being romantically involved, Angelina Jolie and Akala do share a strong bond. According to a second source, “They share the same passion for social and humanitarian causes.” The pair have collaborated on various projects addressing global issues such as human rights, and Jolie speaks very highly of Akala.
Claims by In Touch suggested that Angelina Jolie and Akala had been secretly seeing each other for over a year. However, People’s source indicated that Jolie is “currently single and not dating seriously.”
The romance rumors first surfaced when Akala accompanied Jolie and her daughters, Zahara and Shiloh, to the Calabash Literary Festival in Jamaica in May of the previous year. Eyewitnesses noted that Akala was “very protective” of them during the event. Reports also mentioned a dinner together in Milan six months later.
Jolie and her ex-husband, Brad Pitt, share six children: Maddox, Pax, Zahara, Shiloh, and twins Vivienne and Knox. Jolie has publicly discussed the emotional toll of her divorce from Pitt, describing it as a period of “despair” and “pain” following a 2016 incident on a plane, which she alleged involved assault and abusive behavior. Pitt has consistently denied these accusations.
