Hannah Lynch’s body was discovered alone in a yacht cabin, while five others, including her tech tycoon father, Mike Lynch, were found in a separate compartment, according to the dive chief investigating the incident. The victims of the Bayesian sinking made a final desperate attempt to escape the doomed vessel before their bodies were recovered.
Hannah Lynch, the 18-year-old daughter of tech entrepreneur Mike Lynch, was found alone in her cabin on the super-yacht Bayesian after it sank 50 meters below the Mediterranean’s surface, according to rescue workers. Fire service commander Girolamo Bentivoglio Fiandra reported that five others, including her father, were discovered in a separate compartment on the yacht. The Bayesian had capsized as it sank, and divers determined that the victims had attempted to take refuge on the side of the ship facing the surface before their deaths.
Hannah Lynch was aboard the Bayesian with her parents, along with other high-profile businessmen and their spouses, when the yacht was struck by a suspected downburst—a violent downward gust of wind—in the early hours of Monday. Over the course of the week, the bodies were recovered, bringing the death toll to seven, including the ship’s cook, who was found in the water near the wreck shortly after the disaster. Autopsies have yet to be conducted.
A manslaughter investigation has been initiated. Lead prosecutor Raffaele Cammarano stated that officials are attempting to perform alcohol and drug tests on the survivors and will interview them to determine why seven lives were lost. “We are going to discover how much they knew or to what extent all the people were warned,” he vowed.
