It’s a triumphant weekend for Mzansi! The Springboks secured back-to-back victories in Australia for the first time in 53 years. Adding to the celebration, Dricus “Stillknocks” Du Plessis, South Africa’s first and only UFC world champion, defended his middleweight title against the legendary former champion Israel Adesanya.
McKenzie expressed excitement about the imminent realization of their goal, promising an announcement soon. He noted, “UFC is eager to bring this immensely popular sport to Africa, and with a newly crowned African champion, the likelihood is even greater.”
He highlighted the significance of the Springboks’ presence in Perth, which allowed rugby legends Siya Kolisi and Eben Etzebeth to accompany Dricus Du Plessis to the fight and share in his victory. Despite the partisan crowd’s boos, South Africans, led by the Springbok captain, voiced their support loudly. McKenzie added, “We will be welcoming home true champions this week.”
“We’re immensely proud of our boys. Today is a great day to be South African. Dricus, nou weet hulle wat ons weet (Dricus, now they know what we know)!”
